A rare and remarkable chance to own an early work by one of LA’s most iconic architects, the masterful John Lautner. Lautner met Salkin at the Taliesin Fellowship, where Lautner apprenticed under Frank Lloyd Wright, and this house captures the moment at the beginning of young architect’s illustrious career. More intimate than Lautner’s later, sculptural homes, the Jules Salkin Residence already shows clear signs of what would come: the unique use of angular beams to shape volume, and a close relationship to the surrounding landscape. The views are incredible, and the clear spatial logic gives the home a presence that far exceeds its scale. The home was renovated by the one and only Barbara Bestor, who carefully removed years of later alterations to bring it back close to Lautner’s original vision. Get in touch to tour.
