Understanding the Home Appraisal Process
Good article in today’s NY Times. Jim Rendon’s report is understandably New York centric, but it’s relevant to the process no matter where you live. Helpful info and a good read.

1912 Craftsman + Modern Studio in Pasadena
List Price $639,000
2 bedrooms • 2 bathrooms
1,172 sf • 7,750 sf lot
The open floor plan of this vintage Craftsman Bungalow caught our eye today. Tastefully updated, the Pasadena home has a contemporary feel and at the same time feels true to its roots.
Gorgeous built-in cabinetry and sturdy woodwork are hallmarks of these homes, and the narrow-plank flooring looks fantastic.
The real surprise is this stunning detached studio, the design of award-winning architect Peter Tolkin. A flexible workspace or guest house, it’s a unique addition that absolutely works — and sets this property apart. Strikes us being a good value, too. For an appointment and tour, contact Tracy Do Real Estate.

Green Architecture Levels Up
From a team at the Universitat Politècnica in Barcelona comes a building innovation to help save our planet: concrete with sustainable organic life right on its surface. Says the Science Daily, the facade “offers environmental, thermal and aesthetic advantages over other similar construction solutions. The material improves thermal comfort in buildings and helps to reduce atmospheric CO2 levels.”
Arch Daily adds: “Sustainability has evolved far beyond being a trend and has become an indelible part of this design process… We have seen renditions of the vertical garden and vegetated facades, but what sets the biological concrete apart from these other systems is that it is an integral part of the structure.”

Check it Out: “Mini Modernism” Story in LAT…
There’s a cool, very inspiring piece in the LA Times today about the work of talented students in the Woodbury School of Architecture’s Design/Build program. Best part, they’re doing it for a great cause: the Shadow Hills Riding Club and their innovative equestrian therapy program.
